Fortis has acquired the Print Division of Virginia-based MASA Corporation and its additional Print Division facility in Alabama, plus the other top stories.

Fortis Solutions Group, a provider of high impact printed packaging solutions and a portfolio company of funds managed by Harvest Partners, LP, has announced the acquisition of the Print Division of MASA Corporation, based in Norfolk, VA, and its additional Print Division facility in Decatur, AL. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. MASA Corporation is a national, full-service provider of custom labels, contract packaging, packaging and equipment supplies serving manufacturers and distributors of food and beverage, wine and spirits, personal care and cosmetics and industrial end markets. John O. Wynne, Jr., Fortis president and CEO, says, “Having known and respected the Fraim family, who founded MASA over 55 years ago, I’m excited about the opportunity for our two companies to join forces. This acquisition enables customers to have the opportunity to choose from our increased range and variety of offerings and solutions. We welcome MASA’s talented employees to Fortis.” Plus, sustainability remains an important issue for the labels and graphic arts industries – and specifically for the print embellishment segment of the industries. The Foil & Specialty Effects Association (FSEA) has taken a role in understanding and distributing information about the recyclability of metallic-decorated print, and the association will utilize its platform at the 2024 Print Embellishment Conference, April 9-11, Dallas, TX, USA, to unveil a new report conducted with Van Dyk Recycling Solutions, a top supplier of recycling sorting equipment. The sorting equipment supplied by Van Dyk Recycling Solutions is installed at many of the Municipal Recovery Facilities (MRFs) throughout the United States and North America. Recently, testing was performed with transfer metallic-decorated fiber-based products to understand successful sorting rates. The results will be revealed during a special presentation by FSEA member Seth Levenstein, ITW ShineMark, during the Print Embellishment Conference. Following the announcement, a panel on Sustainability and Embellishments will discuss the new study and other important subjects as they relate to sustainability for print and print embellishments. Here are the highest-trafficked news items from the week ending on April 5: 1. Fortis acquires Print Division of MASA Corporation 2. FSEA to unveil new Sustainability and Metallic Decorating Report 3. Grace Label grows with new Domino digital press 4. Heidelberg announces changes to Supervisory Board 5.
